Reading

Writing

  • Word challenge, using your knowledge or a dictionary, write as many words as you can that are synonyms for 'said'
  • Select one of your books and write a summary of it in less than two paragraphs 
  • Write a story about a zombie that is set in the past. Take care to use the past tense consistently 
  • Make sure your story involves a range of settings and characters that ensure a consistent flow to the story
  • Imagine a friendly young Zombie visited you for the day. What would you and the Zombie do for the day? Write a diary entry about your unusual day 

Maths

  • Write out at least 5 times tables a day, write each one forwards and backwards
  • Create fact sheets, with example questions and methods to help someone else to understand how to convert between fractions - decimals - percentages 
  • Remind yourself how to order decimals - https://corbettmathsprimary.com/2018/07/16/ordering-decimals-video/ 
  • Get a family member to write 10 random decimal numbers; order the numbers given from largest to smallest
  • Create your own number cards from 0 - 100
  • use the number cards, and a decimal card, create the smallest and biggest numbers you can that have three decimal places

Reading
  • Read for 20 minutes every day
  • Keep a record of the books you read
  • Try and read a range of genres including leaflets, newspapers, information articles, news reports and words around your home
  • How many different types of texts can you find around your home?

  • Predict what might happen next to Gulliver, where else could he travel to?

Writing 

Gullivers Travels was a series of stories about an adventurer who travelled the world on a ship and discovered strange new worlds. 

  • Imagine you were a traveller, where would you want to travel to and explore in the world?
  • List continents and countries that you could travel to that are different to England 
  • Imagine and design a new land, that you discover in your travels of the world - try and create an alternative land to any that you know
  • Based on your new world, plan and write your own chapter of an adventurer story to your new land - use a range of descriptive language to help the reader imagine that they are there. 

Level up your grammar - 

  • Write at least 4 synonyms for each of the following verbs: fall / jump / hit / laugh / shout / walk 
  • Write at least 4 synonyms and 4 antonyms for the : following openers: first / next / last / soon
  • Write at least 4 synonyms for the conjunctions: and / but / so / then
Maths 
  • Write out at least 5 times tables a day, try and learn a new times table each day
  • Research Triangle numbers and then calculate the first 30 triangular numbers 
  • Using a mix of the four operations, create your own two-step word problems. (Make sure you know the answers!) 
  • Create a quiz for your family, using your word problems as the first round of the game
  • Think of a different maths theme for each round e.g. shapes / time / speed tables etc.
